In this performance I celebrate men as I continue my exploration of love, eros, sexual intimacy, art, beauty, glamour, and the union of humanity and divinity. I call men boys, from ex-husbands to students, lovers, thinkers, friends, and artists–men who I love in the flesh as well as from distances that may be centuries or cities away–because I like being playful. That lightheartedness flows throughout the piece, as does a consideration of the pleasures that men give me. As I think and play, I give gratitude to men for inspiring me and bringing well-being into my life, I contrast the study of oneself, such as in the ancient practice of jnana yoga, with the self-stifling of conventional scholarship, and I speak as a mystic, an animal, and a goddess as well as a woman. Perfume, percussion, and a lavender costume of gossamer fabric augment the sensuous dimensions of Why I Love the Boys.
