In conjunction with the publication of her new book, A Short Story about a Big Healing, Joanna Frueh debuts a performance with music composed and performed by Kathleen Williamson. Frueh reflects on healing oneself through healing the heart, offering her personal experiences of mending a fractured wrist and curing breast cancer. Known for exciting and unconventional insights and bold and elegant performances with minimalist staging and glamorous costumes, Frueh engagingly performs the text and interacts spontaneously with the audience. A book signing follows the performance.

Kathleen Williamson is a veteran master artist. Her rich, diverse education and experience in the arts, law, and academia contribute to the searching philosophical framework and uplifting agenda of her songwriting and musical compositions. Williamson's music ranges from the topical to the poetic, from folk to jazz, blues, and art songs. Williamson composed the music score for Frueh's 2012 performance The Glamour of Being Real. Williamson's indie CDs garnered TAMMIES for Best CD and are available for purchase following the performance.

Conversations among Friends

As part of the project A Short Story about a Big Healing, Joanna Frueh provides conversations with friends, old and new. Each event begins with Frueh and one conversation partner—the photographer for the book, the musician who composed music for the performance, a doctor or an acupuncturist, a friend who nourished Frueh during the thick of healing, a breast cancer survivor, or people with other personal and professional connections with Frueh. She and her friend talk between themselves, and then Frueh invites audience members, new friends, to participate. Some of the conversation subjects are healing, creativity, and feeling sensual—and just plain good—in your body. Check back here for scheduled conversations and join us!
